The abnormal turnover rate at the Donald Trump White House may resemble that of a fast food chain, but that doesn’t deter the inadequate and unqualified candidates he appointed to positions in which they failed miserably from pretending that they’re leaving for normal reasons. Trump’s second press secretary, Sarah Huckabee Sanders, couldn’t even hold press conferences for months at a time because she was so very bad at them, but she says she’s leaving her post with her “head held high.”
Today I’ll walk out the gates of the White House for the last time as Press Secretary with my head held high. It’s been the honor and privilege of a lifetime to work with President @realDonaldTrump and his amazing team the last three and a half years. You’re the best…Thank you! pic.twitter.com/6H0uyMRtFX

The single most important responsibility of a White House press secretary is to present the policies and positions of the presidential administration they represent truthfully and artfully. Sanders was forced under oath during testimony in front of Special Counsel Robert Mueller to admit that she had completely made up statements with no basis in fact, thereby proving that her most important job was one she could not do. No one needed proof of that from the Mueller report, but hearing her admit that she made up lies on the spot, lies she repeated again and again afterward, was at least somewhat satisfying.
The oddity of a Sanders press conference, which was rarely seen once she began being caught in lies and spending her entire time at the podium attacking and insulting reporters who dared to ask her tough questions, was a food fight between the Trump mouthpiece and journalism. Sanders proved many times that she was either willing to lie for the Trump administration or that she was simply lied to by them and repeated those lies without fact-checking anything, but being called out on that never resulted in a correction. Instead, Sanders simply went into defensive mode like a toddler, or rather, like Trump, insisting that the media are all a bunch of liars while telling them things that were easily disproven.
Twitter wasn’t willing to accept any platitudes from Sanders on “honor” or “pride.” Read some of their comments below:
