This weekend, what’s the president of the United States focused on — concocting new ways to address the looming threat of climate change? Trying to come up with a way to get the best health coverage to the most people? Nope. Donald Trump is spending his Saturday morning nitpicking a cable television host who was mean to him, claiming they’re unfit for show business. The presidency is not show business, Donald — or at least, it’s not supposed to be. Peoples lives are at stake — but Trump can’t be bothered to turn off the television.
‘“A Very Stable Genius!” Thank you. Who the hell is Joy-Ann Reid? Never met her, she knows ZERO about me, has NO talent, and truly doesn’t have the “it” factor needed for success in showbiz. Had a bad reputation, and now works for the Comcast/NBC losers making up phony stories about me. Low Ratings. Fake News!.. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN! KEEP AMERICA GREAT!’
How does Trump expect us to take him seriously? First, for instance, he says that he doesn’t know who MSNBC host Joy Ann-Reid is — then he claims that she had some kind of bad reputation before she started working for her present employer. Although Trump did not immediately indicate what had set him off towards Reid in the first place, she has consistently focused on corruption and other dangerous aspects of his administration.
She’s one of many reporters at this point who the president has taken doing their job as an inescapably horrid conspiracy against him. Just look at the way they’ve treated CNN’s Jim Acosta, even making up a story of him harassing an intern to try and keep press access from him.
Besides Trump’s latest egomaniacal meltdown, he also posted poll numbers depicting his alleged high level of support within the Republican Party that no one really knows where came from.
He wrote, referring to a couple of Republican legislative race victories in areas that were already decidedly “red”:
‘94% Approval Rating in the Republican Party! Tuesday night in the Great State of North Carolina proved that high and very beautiful number correct.’
While these numbers remain… ambiguous, the real ones show Trump consistently losing against a whole array of potential general election challengers.
