Although many have been focused on the developing scandal surrounding President Donald Trump’s alleged attempt to pressure Ukrainian authorities into trying to dig up dirt on former Vice President and leading Democratic presidential primary candidate Joe Biden, there are other unsettling developments proceeding on the front of U.S. foreign relations too. After the Trump administration announced plans to accelerate arms sales to Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and deploy additional troops to the region, all in an effort to bolster forces against Iran, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) bluntly denounced the White House’s latest foreign policy move. She pointed out that Congress already voted against the arms sales the Trump administration is now accelerating, among other issues.
As she put it:
‘President Trump’s plan to accelerate the delivery of military equipment to Saudi Arabia and UAE, and to deploy additional U.S. forces to the region is the latest outrageous attempt by the Trump Administration to circumvent the bipartisan, bicameral will of Congress. These unacceptable actions are cause for alarm… Americans are weary of war, and have no interest in entering another Middle East conflict, particularly on behalf of Saudi Arabia.’

As she also pointed out, Saudi Arabia is no ally of Western human rights concerns. On top of their infamous orchestrated murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi, their regime has consistently used weapons of war against civilians in Yemen — and the Trump administration is “turning a blind eye.”
The developments are proceeding following an attack on Saudi oil facilities that the Trump administration has blamed on Iran, although the Houthi rebels in Yemen at one point claimed responsibility.
