This week, as House Democrats proceeded with their impeachment inquiry, President Donald Trump went to Columbia, South Carolina, where he was set to speak at a forum on criminal justice reform held by the 20/20 Bipartisan Justice Center. He tweeted an absolutely outlandish video on the occasion of him heading down there — the editing together of various clips of him meandering around outside the White House is so bombastic you’d be forgiven for thinking a Declaration of Independence had just been signed or something. The clip reeks of a team desperate for a distraction.
As a caption, Trump included simply:

Again — the footage is literally just of him walking around outside the White House, but in the ego-obsessed Trump World, every step Dear Leader takes is worthy of adoration — or some garbage like that. Trump himself has spoken along those lines, insisting a nauseating number of times that he’s the greatest president in American history. Is that why the number of people in his orbit facing federal criminal charges just keeps climbing?
When Trump arrived in South Carolina this Friday, he faced protests, including a march organized and led by the Tom Steyer campaign, the South Carolina Democratic Black Caucus, and the Democratic Women of Greenville. The forum will actually feature almost a dozen of the currently running Democratic presidential primary candidates, although the potential for bipartisan criminal justice reform has been stifled by things like Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) declaring himself the “grim reaper” of House legislation.
