President Donald Trump is continuing to prove his commitment to prioritizing the political interests of his inner circle above the rule of law. On Wednesday, he rushed to Twitter to praise a ruling from a three-judge panel of the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals ordering Judge Emmet Sullivan to comply with the Justice Department’s request to drop the case against Trump ally Michael Flynn. No facts of that case have changed — Flynn admitted to lying to federal investigators about his communications with a Russian Ambassador. Nevertheless, Trump got so pettily ridiculous this Wednesday that he ranted that certain former Justice Department officials should tell Flynn they’re “SO SORRY.”
He tweeted:

Trump absolutely loves to try and depict himself and his allies as some kind of victims of some kind of grave political persecution. Trump has claimed that investigators have ruined the lives of his associates in the past, and he’s also ridiculously claimed that the Russia investigation’s targeting of his team constitutes the biggest political scandal in U.S. history.
The United States has been involved in many devastating wars, it’s faced assassinations and assassination attempts on U.S. presidents, it’s dealt with grave crimes against humanity like slavery and rampant, violent discrimination against black Americans — but Trump is so self-obsessed that he thinks a duly proceeding investigation launched in response to his team’s clearly documented behavior is part of the “biggest political scandal in U.S. history.”
