McConnell Vs McGrath Kentucky Poll Results Have Voters In Shock

With Donald Trump losing by massive percentages against Joe Biden ahead of the 2020 elections, the effect his potential loss could have on Republican members of the senate are disquieting. Trump has managed to turn more than one solidly red state – Texas, Georgia, and Florida, for instance – into potential swing states in the next election.

Even more shocking is the current race in Kentucky, where Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is in a tight race with his challengers. McConnell has long been the most unpopular senator in office while handily winning elections in his ruby red state for decades. The 2020 polls show that it may be an uphill battle this time in a state where Republicans should not have to worry.

McConnell’s most popular potential contender is fighter pilot Amy McGrath while the more progressive Charles Booker is polling evenly with McConnell, as well. While it is not common that a Democrat gets elected to a top seat in Congress, it absolutely is possible. Former Governor Matt Bevin found that out in 2018.

According to Newsweek:

‘The polling, which was conducted by RMG Group, shows McGrath, a former Marine fighter pilot, with the support of 41 percent of voters, while McConnell is backed by 40 percent. However, the polling also showed that when voters are informed that McGrath supports congressional term limits while McConnell does not, her lead over the Republican jumps significantly.’

It is not yet clear who Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell’s opponent will be in Kentucky in the race for his Senate seat in November. What is clear is that both are tied in a heat with him in polls if the race were held today.

NPR writes that:

‘Results of the race won’t be known for several days, as election officials count mail-in ballots. Officials expanded mail-in voting to all eligible voters in an effort to reduce crowds during the coronavirus pandemic.’
