Empathy, decency, and democracy were on the ballot when President-Elect Joe Biden and Vice President-Elect Kamala Harris won the most votes of any other presidential campaign in history beating every record. What was his first message to America? Donald Trump won the second most votes. That means, as Joe Biden said “It’s time to put the anger and harsh rhetoric behind us and come together.”

These historic figures will help the country come together as one United States of America. President-Elect Biden issued this statement according to the Associated Press (AP):

I am honored and humbled by the trust the American people have placed in me and in Vice President-elect Harris. In the face of unprecedented obstacles, a record number of Americans voted. Proving once again, that democracy beats deep in the heart of America. With the campaign over, it’s time to put the anger and the harsh rhetoric behind us and come together as a nation. It’s time for America to unite. And to heal. We are the United States of America. And there’s nothing we can’t do, if we do it together.’

After days of nail-biting uncertainty as Americans counted the huge surge of mail-in votes. Saturday morning, he and Harris crossed the 270 Electoral College vote line in, appropriately, Pennsylvania the state where he was born.

He had already won the popular vote by more than four million, a margin that may well only expand as them, according to ABC affiliate KVIA. Biden is the polar opposite of the sitting president, a tyrant who actions became more and more alarming by the day. Joe Biden, 77, comes running as Trump posed an existential threat to our American democracy.

Friday night Biden said:

‘We have to remember the purpose of our politics isn’t total unrelenting, unending warfare. No, the purpose of our politics, the work of our nation, isn’t to fan the flames of conflict, but to solve problems, to guarantee justice, to give everybody a fair shot.’

Kamala Harris whose parents were Black and Indian is the first woman in U.S. history to ever serve as vice president, a full century after woman fought for and earned the right to vote. Former Senator Harris also served as the Attorney General in California, a job she often remarked was second only to the job of attorney general of our great general. Her mother was a scientist.

When Trump won in 2016, that was the moment Biden decided to run once more, as he said with “the very soul of the nation is at stake.”

A record 103 million voters broke all records by voting early with 74 million votes going to Biden-Harris. People stood in hours-long lines during a pandemic that has been infecting nearly 130,000 mothers, daughters, sons, fathers, and other loved ones every day.

Biden’s first act as president, one he has already started, is to take control of the COVID-19 pandemic. Over 236,000 Americans have already died, and 10 million have been infected.
