Nearly 100 lawmakers call for Donald Trump’s removal from office. Yet, the majority of the legislators who are supposed to protect us are sitting around on their thumbs say “that is what elections are for.” Excuse me? This was a violent daylight coup attempt. Insurgents occupied our Capitol Building as a significant number of legislators denied President-elect Joe Biden’s win. Four people are dead as gunfire rang out in the sacred Congressional halls.
Trump sent out the invitations, ginned his guests up in person, and unleashed them onto the symbol of our democracy. But what about the police response? This was a massive security failure. Worse, it was a massive failure of Republicans who were only interested in their own political gains.
Representative Cori Bush (D-MO) introduced a resolution to have these legislators who sided with Trump’s investigated and possibly removed from office:
I believe the Republican members of Congress who have incited this domestic terror attack through their attempts to overturn the election must face consequences. They have broken their sacred Oath of Office.
I will be introducing a resolution calling for their expulsion. pic.twitter.com/JMTlQ4IfnR

As a result of this insurgency, legislators were forced to hide inside the Capitol, as the DC’s, Virginia’s, and Maryland’s national guards were finally activated. The city’s mayor also issued a 6 pm curfew, and those still outside were bundled onto special buses and arrested. Bush tweeted:
‘I believe the Republican members of Congress who have incited this domestic terror attack through their attempts to overturn the election must face consequences. They have broken their sacred Oath of Office. I will be introducing a resolution calling for their expulsion.’
Shortly after the alt-right groups who took the nation’s capitol were removed, Missouri Representative Cori Bush (D-MO) addressed this underlying deficit on MSNBC. “Call it what it is:”
‘We need to call it what it is — it is white supremacy — it was white privilege and it was the call of our president. And it was encouraged by our Republican colleagues,” Rep. Cori Bush says.
‘That’s why we are calling for them to be removed. They should not be seated.’

Lawmakers on both sides of the aisle and Trump aides begged the president to call off his insurgents.
The president in response initially sent a pair of tweets telling the insurgent he loved them and to “stay peaceful.” He told them they were “very special” and go home.
