Former President Donald Trump is continuing to publicly rant about the imaginary fraud that he claims was responsible for Joe Biden’s presidential election victory in 2020.
The breadth of his delusion is staggering. Trump evidently still seriously believes that frontline election workers, county canvassing boards, state canvassing boards, Secretaries of State, governors, members of Congress, officials at the federal Departments of Justice and Homeland Security, and federal judges — including some of his own appointees! — were all complicit in a supposed plot to somehow rig the election. Every single one of these authorities have attested to the security of the election, but Trump would have observers believe that they’re all wrong.
In a new statement, Trump complained about the refusal by Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) to go along with the unhinged election lies. As he angrily put it:
‘Warmonger Liz Cheney, who has virtually no support left in the Great State of Wyoming, continues to unknowingly and foolishly say that there was no Election Fraud in the 2020 Presidential Election when in fact, the evidence, including no Legislative approvals as demanded by the U.S. Constitution, shows the exact opposite.’
Trump’s “legislative approvals” comment refers to the false right-wing idea that election policy changes that weren’t approved by the relevant state legislature are automatically unconstitutional.
Trump went on to complain about former Vice President Mike Pence and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.). In January, when a mob of Trump supporters stormed the Capitol under the explicit pretense of Trump’s lies about the election, some of them chanted “Hang Mike Pence!” and some put up a functional gallows outside the building. Trump doesn’t appear to have been fazed, continuing to claim — wrongly — that Pence had the authority as vice president to singlehandedly block the formal Congressional certification of Joe Biden’s presidential election victory.
Trump ranted as follows:
‘Had Mike Pence referred the information on six states (only need two) back to State Legislatures, and had gutless and clueless MINORITY Leader Mitch McConnell (he blew two seats in Georgia that should have never been lost) fought to expose all of the corruption that was presented at the time, with more found since, we would have had a far different Presidential result, and our Country would not be turning into a socialist nightmare! Never give up!’
