Well, it appears that Donald Trump is not the most popular dame at the dance any longer. He rode high on his popularity among the homegrown terrorists as they poured into the Capitol Building on their way toward mayhem. But alas, out of sight, out of mind.
Trump’s icy cold sausage fingers are losing their death grasp around the Republican Party. We see this as an anticipated 30 of the representatives are expected to go native with the Democratic lawmakers in their vote for a January 6 Commission, according to MSNBC Contributor and The Punchbowl News’ Founder Anne Palmer. They wanted to know exactly what happened on that January 6th day when America almost lost its democracy to a dictatorship. How did that happen?
The Republican people want to know, too. In a new 2024 GOP Primary Politico/Morning Consult Poll, people were asked this fateful question:
‘If the 2024 Republican primary were being held today, for whom would you vote?’
Our ex could not even muster a 50 percent majority when the Republican voters spoke out. It has been four months since January 6. Trump allegedly fired a weaponized mob at the symbol of our great country, the Capitol Building, to kill Vice President Mike Pence (R) and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA). They were the next politicians in line for the presidency after Trump. The videos of his attempt to overthrow the 2020 presidential election and thus, our democracy were brutal and damning.
Now, Trump did do three times better than his nearest competitor former Vice President Pence, 48 to 13 percent. But paybacks could be hell. In politics, a week has always been a lifetime. Even his son, Donald Trump Jr. (R) dragged well behind Pence at seven percent. Tying near the bottom at four percent were Senators Ted Cruz (R-TX) and Mitt Romney (R-UT) as well as UN Ambassador Nikki Haley (R). But there was worse.
The only Black Senator Tim Scott (R-SC) came in at two percent. One would think that Senator Marco Rubio (R-CA) and Governor Kristi (R-SD) Noem at one percent were the worst, but no.
Missouri Senator Josh Hawley (R-MO) had two. Not two percent, two people wanted him. Beneath him were Senator Rick Scott (R-FL) and Governor Larry Hogan (R-MD) with one – one respondent each — not between them.
The Republican legislators kicked Liz Cheney (R- WY) out of the party leadership, and they made a big mistake. Now, she has been free to hit all of the cable shows, talk shows, and publications spreading the word about Trump to all of her fellow Republican voters. After all, although they may be as noisy as a murder of crows, his supporters only represent a slice of the somewhat rancid GOP American pie.
Trump may weaponize his supporters into a treasonous missile, many unwittingly. But that just makes the rest of his party nervous.
