President Barack Obama reached into Americans’ hearts and called for action, “any kind of action.” Another Democrat said he was on his knees begging the Republican senators to vote for the most basic of gun control laws, saying “What are we doing?” Senator Chris Murphy (D-CT) knew this mass murder of second-, third-, and fourth-graders in a dusty western Texas town of 16,000 was very similar to Sandy Hook. It happened in his state exactly 10 years ago.
So far, the count is 19 of America’s little ones dead along with two adults. President Obama held close those parents across the nation and “worried about what might happen.”And in his gentle offering to them and to America, he tweeted:
‘Across the country, parents are putting their children to bed, reading stories, singing lullabies—and in the back of their minds, they’re worried about what might happen tomorrow after they drop their kids off at school, or take them to a grocery store or any other public space.’
Senator Murphy wants laws. Those would be background checks on anyone buying guns and banning military-grade weapons. He said again “What are we doing?” In the Senate, he said if they could not do that, then why were they there? And our former leader promised what we all know, “families to wait for another day:”
‘It’s long past time for action, any kind of action. And it’s another tragedy—a quieter but no less tragic one—for families to wait another day.’
The president during a decade-old term reached into the depths of American religion for comfort and found these profound words, “heal the brokenhearted and bind up their wounds:”
‘May God bless the memory of the victims, and in the words of Scripture, heal the brokenhearted and bind up their wounds.’
Is this who we are? No. A full 90 percent of us are for background checks, and most want military-grade weapons. banned. These are so powerful that the police had to do DNA checks to identify each child. Is this who we are? No.
President Obama included Coach Steve Kerr’s profound message. Kerr knows gun violence. His father was shot and killed in Lebanon:

But it is who the Republican senators are as they attend the national NRA convention this weekend, only several hours’ drive away from the Uvalde, TX tragedy. We can see who attended. And we can see how the Republican senators voted along gun control laws lines.
Then, our President Obama included Senator Chris Murphy’s words on the Senate floor. “What are we doing:”
‘Senator Chris Murphy (@ChrisMurphyCT): “The 14 kids dead in an elementary school in Texas right now. What are we doing? What are we doing? Just days after a shooter walked into a grocery store to gun down African American patrons we have another Sandy Hook on our hands.”‘

It is not who we are. But given that America is 10 years beyond the Sandy Hank massacre, it is who the Republican senators are.
