Hilllary Clinton Chews Out Trump For Threatening National Security

During an appearance this week on Late Night with Seth Meyers, Hillary Clinton discussed some of the serious dangers posed by Trump harboring classified documents at Mar-a-Lago and the brazen hypocrisy shown by Trump and those sticking by him, considering the years that Clinton was the target of demands for her imprisonment because of her supposed mishandling of government information.

“You can’t make this up,” Clinton told Meyers. “The lies they told, the heated rhetoric, ‘Lock her up!’ — all that nonsense. It was totally political, divorced from reality. Now, we have a serious problem, because if you just read, and I don’t have any inside information, what is being found, nuclear information about an ally or an adversary, incredibly top secret [material]. The kind of stuff, Seth, that when I was Secretary of State… Sometimes — usually it was a man, usually a military officer — would come into my office and would have a handcuff that was attached to a suitcase in order to show me something that was so secret he literally had to have it tied to his hand… I don’t care what political party you are. But come on, cut the hypocrisy. This is a threat to our national security that somebody would actually have in his country club storage room, his desk, his bedroom top secret information.”

Clinton also noted the question of why Trump was harboring all of these materials, including the prospect that somebody was accessing it who didn’t possess the appropriate clearance. The former Secretary of State also added that she wasn’t directly calling for Trump’s jailing without a thorough investigation — rather, she just wanted the investigation to continue and uncover the relevant facts. The New York Times notes that a State Department probe found in 2019 in Clinton’s case there was “no persuasive evidence of systemic, deliberate mishandling of classified information.” Compare that with Trump, whose Florida country club known as Mar-a-Lago harbored hundreds of documents marked classified well after he left office — some of which remained at the premises even after a federal subpoena demanding the return of any such materials and a signed assurance from a Trump lawyer that everything covered by the subpoena was getting returned.
