Democratic Rep. Ruben Gallego (Ariz.) reminded observers of some of the allegations against Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) this week.

In short, Jordan, who was formerly an assistant wrestling coach at Ohio State University, was alleged to have known about and ignored a pattern of sexual abuse by Richard Strauss, who worked as a sports physician. Gallego was responding to an accusation Jordan made on Twitter about Democrats supposedly wanting to “ignore crime” in the cities members of their party run. “Jim, you are the last person that should be talking about ignoring crime,” Gallego, who’s running for U.S. Senate, said.

Gallego is hoping to nab the seat currently held by Kyrsten Sinema, who because she changed her party affiliation to independent from Democratic won’t have to face Gallego or anybody else in a primary if she runs for another term. As for Jordan, among recent developments was the revelation that a documentary on the abuse perpetrated by Strauss at Ohio State would be coming — in part from a production company that actor and activist George Clooney leads with Grant Heslov. “Grant and I are very proud to be working on this project with HBO,” Clooney said in prepared remarks. “It’s a devastating story about people in power abusing and then covering up their criminal actions against students. The fact that it hasn’t been resolved as of yet is deeply disturbing.” And those figures who helped with the cover-up would, per accusations, include the Ohio Congressman.

Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.) has also refuted allegations about supposedly out-of-control crime in Democratic-leaning cities. Certain Republicans “constantly try to link images of crime to what they call Democrat-controlled cities,” Raskin remarked. “So, I did some research last night just to clarify matters. The seven states with the highest murder rates in 2020 all were states that were majority for Donald Trump in the 2020 election. The murder rate in the states that voted for Trump was higher in aggregate than the murder rate in the states that voted for Biden in each year from 2000 to 2020… [Kevin McCarthy] joins the chorus denouncing crime in Washington, D.C., which is suddenly of concern to them — I’d not heard them mention that before. Well, it turns out that Bakersfield, California, has one of the highest crime rates in America, recently described as one of the top ten deadliest cities in America for its size. And its crime rate is higher than that of Washington, D.C.”
