At a show seemingly held in New Jersey, longtime musician Hayley Williams, who is in the also long-running band Paramore, blasted the prospect of voting for Ron DeSantis to a crowd of cheering fans.

“I’ll be happy to tell you — I’m very fucking comfortable talking politics,” Williams told the crowd. “If you vote for Ron DeSantis, you’re fucking dead to me. So is that comfortable enough for anyone?” According to an individual who posted some footage of the singer making those remarks, Williams said she’d seen complaints on the internet of her supposedly being too hesitant around talking politics. Williams’s band originated in the early 2000s, and their most recent album, “This Is Why,” topped multiple charts, including Top Alternative Albums and Top Rock Albums, per Billboard. On the Billboard 200, the album peaked in second place, making it one of the most popular records then in circulation in the U.S.

DeSantis, the governor of Florida, recently announced his campaign for the 2024 Republican nomination for president, though he probably has a tough road ahead of him considering he is still mostly way behind Donald Trump in polls. Ever since talk of DeSantis potentially making a presidential run first began to circulate, Trump has waged a PR campaign against him, blasting the former close ally as essentially a traitor, considering it’s long been clear Donald himself would be running for president again. In Florida, DeSantis has presided over the implementation of an agenda targeting LGBTQ+ rights, abortion rights, casting a ballot, and more, sparking legal challenges and widespread outrage — even from Disney!
