The U.S. House has voted down a resolution supported by prominent far-right members of the chamber that would have put Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) on the rhetorical spot.

The proposed measure, sponsored by first-term Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-Fla.), would have censured Schiff and directed the formulation of a House Ethics Committee investigation into the Congressman. Censure is essentially a formal rebuke, which doesn’t necessarily amount to much, especially in a Congress where Republicans have long since dragged down the basic standards of decency. Put up for consideration by the full House in a slightly indirect format, a majority rejected the push. That rejection came in the form of these members supporting the tabling of the proposed censure, meaning they backed essentially setting it aside. A full 225 members of the House, including 20 Republicans, supported tabling, while 196 Republicans voted in opposition, meaning they wanted to keep it active.

Familiar names like Reps. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.), Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.), and Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.) were among those who tried to keep the censure effort alive.

According to Schiff himself, Luna promptly promised to introduce a new version of the effort. Doesn’t she have better things to do? Couldn’t those in her district who are struggling use a Congressional representative interested in something more than getting one over on her controversial Democratic colleague? “As I walked off the House Floor, @RepLuna, someone I’ve not met until today… …A person I couldn’t have picked out of a lineup… Told me she’s filing **another** censure resolution next week, “and this one will pass,”” Schiff said on his personal Twitter. “They aren’t giving up. But I’ve got news: neither am I.”

On a similar note, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) has even introduced articles of impeachment against Joe Biden and top officials like Merrick Garland and the FBI director, but there’s no clear sign that those efforts are going essentially, well, anywhere.
