Jamie Raskin Targets GOP For Ignoring Trump Family’s Widespread Financial Corruption

After the recent revelation of a plea arrangement between Hunter Biden and a Delaware U.S. prosecutor that concerned tax offenses and a single firearms charge, Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.) took the opportunity to again push for more comprehensive scrutiny of Jared Kushner and the Trump family. (Hunter is the president’s son, and Raskin’s statement appears below.)

Kushner is the former president’s son-in-law, and an investment operation that he founded after leaving service with Donald in D.C. received billions of dollars in support from an official Saudi source — potentially creating or revealing a massive conflict of interest. And it doesn’t end there. Trump himself is an avid promoter of LIV Golf, which is a new golf league backed by essentially that same Saudi source of money — and amid his support for the endeavor, Donald has hosted an ongoing series of events for the league at his properties, seemingly raking in millions at the family business!

In the Kushner case, were there any discussions or cues towards a later financial kickback for the then-president’s family while Donald and Jared still had power? Are there deals or understandings associated with the millions that’s evidently gone to the Trump business because of LIV Golf?

Republicans seem more interested in chasing flimsy conspiracy theories about imaginary bribes to the Bidens… money that wouldn’t even make sense to exist, since an alleged aim of the bribery was something the U.S. government and much of the West were already doing (opposing a then-prosecutor in Ukraine).

“This development reflects the Justice Department’s continued institutional independence in following the evidence of actual crimes and enforcing the rule of law even in the face of constant criticism and heckling by my GOP colleagues who think that the system of justice should only follow their partisan wishes,” Raskin said, discussing Hunter Biden’s federal plea arrangement. “Oversight Committee Republicans have advanced debunked conspiracy theories about President Biden and are now, again, wailing about the work of a Trump appointed U.S. Attorney. Meanwhile, our colleagues have refused to investigate Jared Kushner and Donald Trump’s receipt of billions of dollars from autocratic regimes after handing them a string of outrageous policy favors and concessions.”
