Matt Gaetz Walks Into A Trap & Falls For Seemingly Obvious Fakery In Public

Recently, comments from an account identified as belonging to someone named Erica Marsh have been going somewhat viral on Twitter… but there’s no apparent evidence that Marsh, as the persona is claimed to exist via the account, actually exists.

Furthering the idea that there might be some kind of trolling that’s transpiring here, some of the commentary from “Marsh” essentially directly furthers the outrageous views held by many Republicans of Democrats… and Matt Gaetz fell for it. “Erica Marsh” is the name — to a t — of a character on the popular television program One Tree Hill. The circumstances strongly suggesting fakery behind the profile are extremely obvious, and yet, Gaetz — among just several hundred people in the country with the kind of power he has — was seemingly eager to respond.

“Marsh” was originally reacting to the Supreme Court ruling that threw out the usage of affirmative action in the process of admitting students to college. “Today’s Supreme Court decision is a direct attack on Black people. No Black person will be able to succeed in a merit-based system which is exactly why affirmative-action based programs were needed. Today’s decision is a TRAVESTY!!!” the account said. “Woke white lady (she/her) claims: “No Black person will be able to succeed in a merit-based system…” I strongly disagree with this racist allegation,” Gaetz said in a public reply. There is no real-world evidence that Democrats in any significant number actually harbor the beliefs espoused on the “Marsh” account.

Elsewhere, Gaetz has been up to his usual antics. He recently participated in proceedings of the House Armed Services Committee meant to work through the latest bill to fund the nation’s defense apparatus for the forthcoming year, promoting — among similarly styled nonsense — an amendment that would formally ban the usage of certain taxpayer resources for drag performances held at locations like U.S. military installations. Such a concern is — as Democrats on the committee made clear at the time — nowhere near a pressing concern for many! Yet, Republicans remain predictably obsessed.
