MTG Pushes For Investigation Of COVID-19 Vaccines That Trump’s Team Funded

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) continues to spread stated concerns about the vaccines that were developed and distributed to target COVID-19. Now, she has called for further investigation in Congress into the matter from the committee on which she serves that specifically handles COVID-19 issues. The panel is a subcommittee of the House Oversight Committee, presently controlled like other House panels by the Republican Party.

The contentions from Greene and others about ostensible dangers from these widely distributed shots often ignore the role the Trump administration itself had in producing the funding to support development efforts. Trump himself has sometimes since used the vaccines in political jabs, including against Ron DeSantis, the current Republican governor of Florida who is presently running against the ex-president for the Republican Party’s nomination for president in 2024. Though originally regarded as having promising prospects, DeSantis’s standing in surveys has sunk.

Greene, meanwhile, was promoting claims that tied vaccinations against COVID-19 to heart conditions. She responded to a post from Dr. Peter McCullough that tied vaccinations against the virus to heart problems, though research done in Australia has found no association between cardiac arrest experienced outside the hospital and these vaccinations. “We must investigate this on our @COVIDSelect committee,” Greene said. “We must investigate side effects and deaths of the federally funded COVID vaccines. Myocarditis, blood clots, and many more serious issues can not be ignored.”

She and others have misrepresented the nature of data connecting deaths and other adverse health effects to COVID-19 vaccinations. The federal Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS), which figures aligned with Greene have referenced, documents deaths after COVID-19 vaccines — but there is no inherently substantial connection between the two made in the data. The system proactively collects information on potentially noteworthy events happening within a noteworthy span of time from each other. It’s after this data collection that investigations can be and are done into whether there is any substantial tie or developments were random.
