MAGA’s Desperation To Impeach Biden Takes A Hit As The Votes ‘Aren’t There Yet’

Some House Republicans like Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (Ga.) continue to clamor for impeachment proceedings against President Joe Biden, but even with the Republican majority currently in place in the House, the votes needed to launch a formal inquiry “aren’t there yet” according to CNN.

The publication cited one House Republican, Rep. Don Bacon (Neb.), who expressed doubts. Bacon, along with nearly a dozen and a half other Republicans in the House, represents a district where Biden was victorious in 2020. “Did the president commit high crimes or misdemeanors? The committees need to do more digging to clarify this,” Bacon said, though he also accused the president of apparent lying. “There’s tons of smoke, but let’s verify what’s beneath that all.”

Republicans have sought to tie the president to ostensibly corrupt business dealings in which Hunter Biden, a son of his, was involved, though it’s still not been shown that the president had substantive ties to what went on, as would be evinced through actual payments. The claims that some have spread of $10 million potentially having gone to Joe and Hunter for bribes remain without evidence. Recently, the House Oversight Committee heard testimony from Devon Archer, a past business partner of Hunter Biden, who also did not provide evidence of the president directly involving himself in Hunter’s business interactions, though Archer claimed that Hunter and Joe were on the phone in the presence (on Hunter’s end) of business associates, something that some may seek to argue constitutes a meaningfully corrupt tie.

Among House Republicans, there’s also been talk of impeachment proceedings that would implicate other top officials in the Biden administration, such as Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas and Attorney General Merrick Garland. In Biden’s case, also among House Republicans’ points of contention is his alleged mishandling of the southern border, though they’re misrepresenting it. Articles of impeachment against Biden that were sponsored by Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.) claimed operational control at the southern border has gone to foreign criminal organizations, which is flatly false.
