Hunter Biden, a son of the current president, is not running for any elected office, and he has shown no evident interest in doing so. He is currently facing prosecution within the ordinary confines of the justice system, in which the government and his own legal team will have the routine opportunities to present their respective cases. And yet, Republicans in Congress remain absolutely obsessed with the presidential son.
Republicans in the House subpoenaed testimony from Hunter, and the younger Biden showed up in Washington, D.C., prepared to testify… publicly, a prospect Republicans rejected. They’d wanted a private round of questioning, which some worried could let bad actors have the opportunity to set the narrative around whatever Hunter Biden said — separate from the actual facts.
The House Oversight Committee is one of the panels that’s been targeting Hunter, and it counts Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.) as a member. She spoke out regarding the younger Biden in recent days. “Hunter Biden says that the House GOP has no shame. Has he ever seen his own laptop?” she posted on X, formerly called Twitter.
She is referring with her implied argument that Hunter himself has no “shame” to a laptop that’s been tied to him, though questions have long circulated about the legitimacy of files linked to it. You might recall, meanwhile, that Boebert herself was ejected from a production of “Beetlejuice” while on an apparent date after behavior including taking flash photography in the crowd, vaping indoors, and what security footage revealed were handsy interactions with her companion.
“Have YOU seen Your own video, Lauren “Election Denying” Boebert ???” a reply said. She received 11,000 replies in total — an abnormally large amount. “Listen, just stay out of theatres and try not to talk about ‘shame’, hun,” someone else said. The tone was very consistent.
