The re-election campaign hoping to send Joe Biden back for another four years as president has reported massive fundraising totals around and after the incumbent president’s recent “State of the Union” address to Congress.

NBC News distributed some of the early data, which revealed $10 million in fundraising in the 24 hours following the speech — a record in a day for the incumbent president’s campaign, apparently. The Biden team also said that for three hours in a row on Thursday night it was setting records for funds raised in an hour. And last week, the team’s Wednesday total — which represented fundraising done after Trump’s “Super Tuesday” wins in GOP presidential primaries more firmly establishing his expected Republican nomination this year — reached $1.5 million.

Democrats frequently report impactful fundraising totals, and the Biden campaign (just the official campaign entity) was already tens of millions of dollars ahead of Trump’s campaign in cash on hand — meaning available funds — at the close of January. Both Biden and Trump also can benefit from the fundraising totals and cash on hand at affiliated campaign operations like joint fundraising accounts shared between the individual campaign and their political party.

Trump’s attack lines after Biden’s “State of the Union” accused the president of a lack of motivation around the southern border and related issues… though the current president’s team was involved in putting forward a Senate proposal on immigration that Republicans recently voted down amid claims of deficiencies. That was despite the new powers for closing the border included in the bill and the help in speeding up the processing of immigration cases and dealing in direct terms with maintaining security at the border via boosts to hiring. The GOP’s burst of opposition left Americans with nothing in terms of new legislation… contrasting with the incessant Republican claims of an “invasion” at the border threatening the United States’ very continuance.
