Leading Trump Ally Refuses To Commit To Accepting The 2024 Election Results

During an interview this weekend on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” Sen. Tim Scott (R-S.C.) adamantly refused to commit to accepting the results of the presidential election later this year, no matter who wins. Though Scott once ran a presidential primary campaign against Trump, he now supports the ex-president-turned-criminal defendant and presumptive presidential nominee for the 2024 election from the Republican Party.

“Senator, will you commit to accepting the election results of 2024 — bottom line?” host Kristen Welker asked the South Carolinian. Scott refused to do so, instead insisting Trump will win.

“At the end of the day, the 47th president of the United States will be President Donald Trump. I’m excited to get back to low inflation, low unemployment,” said Scott, at which point Welker cut him off, seeking a clearer answer to her initial question.

“This is why so many Americans believe that NBC is an extension of the Democrat Party,” Scott eventually complained to Welker. There’s one American who has infamously pushed that very idea… Trump himself, alongside whom a spot as running mate for this year’s presidential election may be of interest to Scott. (Trump uses the nickname “MSDNC” — blending associated “MSNBC” with “DNC” for the Democratic National Committee.)

Scott’s role as a Senator makes his stance on the election results particularly relevant, since it’s in Congress where, in theory, allies to Trump could again seek to derail the process of certifying the presidential election’s outcome, though the threshold for challenges to electoral votes was raised after the mess in Congress of January 6, 2021. And if Scott is, in some future scenario, Trump’s pick for vice president, that would make the Senator’s stance even more relevant, since, in theory, Scott could expand the reach of an election-targeting campaign on par with 2020 if Trump loses again.
