ABC Host Cuts Off Trump Lawyer In New Interview: ‘There’s Just Zero Evidence Of That’

After the recently delivered guilty verdict from a Manhattan jury in the local criminal case against former President Donald Trump on felony allegations of falsifying business records, Trump attorney Will Scharf appeared this Sunday on ABC with host George Stephanopoulos, and there was some tension.

In the closing portions of the discussion, captured and shared on X (formerly Twitter) by journalist Aaron Rupar, Scharf was trying to push the idea that the prosecution of Trump traced substantially to President Joe Biden and his team at the White House. No specific evidence has emerged actually placing any control of the prosecution with such individuals. Though there’s a figure on local prosecutor Alvin Bragg’s team who did previously hold federal responsibilities, someone getting a new job isn’t the same thing as proof of central coordination.

“I vehemently disagree that President Biden and his political allies aren’t up to their necks in this prosecution,” Scharf opined.

“There’s no evidence of that,” replied Stephanopoulos, adding: “I’m not gonna let you continue to say that; there’s just zero evidence of that.” Sounding exasperated, he cut off the Trump lawyer as he delivered that rebuttal.

Now that Trump is convicted, sentencing is something to consider, and Scharf also insisted in the interview that he was confident Trump would end up not subject to any sentence at all because of Trump team-anticipated success in the appeals process.

Trump, meanwhile, is sticking to a steady stream of public invective as his case enters its latest, post-verdict stages. Though there’s plenty of his own, original commentary to the same effect, he reposted on Truth Social this weekend a meme comparing the present point in history to 1776, a central stage in the United States’ eventual independence. He also did a new interview with Fox in which some were concerned that some of his comments potentially winked towards possible violence on par with the Capitol riot.
