Donald Trump’s presidency is underwater and he’s still trying to deny he’s even on the ship. On Friday, one more devastating bombshell dropped when Trump’s former personal attorney and “fixer” Michael Cohen’s sentencing memo was made public. The document laid out three important points: that Cohen has been cooperating significantly with the Mueller investigation, that he’s committed multiple felonies including tax and bank fraud, and that the current president of the United States is now officially implicated in two of those felonies.
Trump’s tweet is gaslighting at its finest. The documents in no way cleared Trump; in fact, they directly stated that Individual-1, who successfully campaigned and was elected to the presidency, directed his attorney to commit two felony crimes.
Both are violations of campaign finance laws. A recording of a conversation between Trump and Cohen has already been released, and it was damning. Trump can be heard directing his attorney to pay off two former mistresses to keep them quiet during the presidential campaigns. In fact, Trump told Cohen to pay them in cash. Both those payments were in-kind donations to the Trump presidential campaign, both far exceed the maximum campaign amount an individual can make, and neither was ever reported.
In those documents, prosecutors state that Trump directed Cohen to commit those felonies. That’s a revelation in this case because it means they have proof of their claims. The recording is enough proof.
Russian collusion and obstruction of justice are still being investigated. However, the documents released on Friday are enough to prove that President Trump committed felonies during the presidential campaigns.
