Although he initially suggested he was open to Congress getting the entire final report from Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia investigation, President Donald Trump has since re-upped the ante of his angry rambling criticism of the whole operation. This Monday on Twitter, he complained that House Democrats dare want to see the results of the two year investigation paid for with tens of millions of taxpayer dollars encompassing serious and continuing issues of national security in and outside of elections.
He ranted:
‘The Democrats will never be satisfied, no matter what they get, how much they get, or how many pages they get. It will never end, but that’s the way life goes!’
“That’s the way life goes”? Yeah Trump, if your team seeks to align itself with Russia to the point of your own son saying in an email that they’d “love” dirt on a political rival from the Kremlin — that’s the way life goes. Throughout the Trump team’s responses to the Mueller investigation’s conclusion, they have ignored the mountains of evidence that piled up against them in the first place, no matter the final conclusion of no prosecutable conspiracy. Trump’s former campaign manager Paul Manafort earned millions upon millions of dollars from pro-Kremlin political interests in Europe, making him vulnerable to exploitation and proving his attachment to the interests in the first place — and they still want us to think the whole thing is a witch hunt.
Amazing. If only they could apply that kind of ambition to something like coming together with Democrats to address pressing national issues like the isolation of lower income and minority people — that would be great.
Trump, of course, prefers to sound an alarm over the nonexistent security crisis he’s claiming is unfolding at the southern United States border, which he has repeatedly threatened to close. His claim is that asylum seekers including plenty of women and children fleeing violence from Central America should be feared, despite facts like an essentially complete lack of data to support his assertions that undocumented immigrants harbor crime. They’re arrested at significantly lower rates than native-born Americans, and the majority of border counties are significantly safer than comparable inland jurisdictions — but to Trump, there’s a crisis anyway, but nothing to see where his team members are only barely metaphorically sending legal precedent up in smoke.
