This week, President Donald Trump has faced his impeachment trial in the Senate, and he’s not taking it well. On Friday morning, before 9 A.M. Eastern time, he’d already posted some three dozen and counting tweets and retweets about the situation. The posts exemplify his scorched earth approach — he is consistently absolutely refusing to admit any kind of legitimacy for his opponents, no matter evidence that they have publicly accumulated against him. He even complained about low television ratings for the weekend timeslot in which his defense team may start to make their case! In other words, he’s going all in with the theatrics here.
He tweeted:
‘After having been treated unbelievably unfairly in the House, and then having to endure hour after hour of lies, fraud & deception by Shifty Schiff, Cryin’ Chuck Schumer & their crew, looks like my lawyers will be forced to start on Saturday, which is called Death Valley in T.V.’

Perhaps he’s particularly upset by how well some of House Intelligence Committee Chairman and impeachment case manager Adam Schiff’s remarks seem to have landed. Schiff’s Thursday night phrasing even trended on Twitter in the hours after he delivered the remarks. He said:
‘Donald Trump must be convicted and removed from office. Because he will always choose his own personal interest over our national interest. Because in America, right matters. Truth matters. If not, no Constitution can protect us. If not, we are lost.’
Indeed — the facts of Trump’s behavior, including his plot to bribe Ukraine into investigating his opponents, reveal his dedicated self-serving.
