President Donald Trump has consistently failed to inspire confidence in his handling of the Coronavirus outbreak in the U.S. He’s spent considerable time working himself up into a frenzy against those who, like Michigan’s Democratic Governor Gretchen Whitmer, have dared to even begin criticizing his administration’s behavior. After Trump tweeted angrily about Whitmer, insisting that she should do more although she’d led in dramatic steps like public school closures, Democratic presidential primary contender Joe Biden publicly dragged Trump on Twitter for his reckless behavior. Even in a time of public health crisis, Trump won’t put aside the petty partisanship.
Biden tweeted:
‘Michigan’s response has far outpaced the federal government’s in this crisis. Gov. Whitmer is leading decisively, while you are live-tweeting her appearances on cable news. We need a president who will do their job and lead this country.’

Trump’s focus has often remained squarely with his public image. At a Tuesday press conference, for instance, he insisted that he’s taken the Coronavirus crisis seriously for its whole duration, although the actual record of his public remarks tells a dramatically different story. At one rally, he even called concern about the virus a “hoax” from Democrats, and now he wants us to believe him that he’s always been gravely concerned about the disease? Seriously? With thousands of confirmed cases in the U.S., he just can’t escape the situation anymore.
This Wednesday morning, he tweeted:
‘I always treated the Chinese Virus very seriously, and have done a very good job from the beginning, including my very early decision to close the “borders” from China – against the wishes of almost all. Many lives were saved. The Fake News new narrative is disgraceful & false!’

It’s not a “Fake News narrative.” The record of Trump’s past dismissal of the virus is public! The “narrative” is simply a compendium of Trump’s own dismissive remarks, both online and in person! Also — the World Health Organization has insisted that leaders should not use racist monikers like the “Chinese Virus,” but Trump doesn’t seem to care.
Biden also tweeted other messages about the Coronavirus’s spotlight on the need for competent leadership.
This crisis requires a decisive economic response. We need to do whatever it takes to deliver relief for our families and ensure the stability of our economy.
