New York Attorney General Letitia James has revealed to NBC News that her team is putting together a substantial list of actions for a potential Biden administration to take in order to undo some of the most destructive actions of the Trump administration. James has faced off against the Trump administration in court on numerous occasions, and she has also faced off against the Trumps in a more personal capacity, having just recently hosted Eric Trump for a deposition in an ongoing investigation of the Trump family business. That investigation focuses on questions like whether the Trump Organization improperly adjusted valuations of its assets in order to get benefits like tax breaks.
Now, with days until Election Day and with tens of millions of votes already cast across the country, Letitia James says that she is preparing for a potential Biden victory in order to be ready to help put things back in order that the Trump administration has targeted. James told NBC News:
‘We’re preparing a list. And the list is long. We’ll have a team of individuals, again, working on reversing all of the bad regulations and laws that have been put forth… We will work with the Biden administration to ask them to file stays in a number of cases that are pending in the courts all across this country.’
James also said that she and her fellow state attorney generals are looking at “legal options to determine what action, if any” would be warranted for them to take if the election results get dragged into court. Depending on factors like the margin separating the the two major party presidential candidates in the final results, the election outcome could definitely end up getting battled over in court. Donald Trump himself has openly threatened to reject the election results, although nobody appointed him to be the arbiter of democracy.
There’s already been a slew of lawsuits around the country related to the election. In many of these court cases, Republicans have been trying to curtail access to voting. Republicans, for instance, have challenged extensions of deadlines for receiving mail-in ballots for counting, despite the fact that none of these deadline extensions changed the fact that ballots must be submitted by Election Day. The extensions for the deadlines by which ballots must arrive to remain valid are meant to compensate for mail service slowdowns.
