Surgeon General Adams Publicly Rebuffs Trump’s COVID Lies

Now that Donald Trump has fallen into Lame Duck Lake, people in his administration have begun speaking out, contradicting him. Certainly, POTUS is raging, but his is a shadow-like presence. It appears that the closer he gets to January 20, the less his impact.

The U.S. Surgeon General Jerome Adams spoke out contradicting Trump’s insistence that the COVID-19 death toll was far below what the media was reporting. He appeared on CNN’s State of the Union with Jake Tapper on Sunday.

Tapper asked how he was able to provide correct health data when Trump continually lied about the virus’ numbers. The president tweeted Sunday morning faulting the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) methodology regarding the deaths from the coronavirus. POTUS called it “fake news.”

‘I don’t speak for the president. I speak for the Office of the Surgeon General and the public health service, and I’m focused on getting people the information they need. Wear a mask. Wash your hands. Watch your distance. Get your vaccine when it becomes available.’

Tapper asked:

‘Is that real? Is the death toll real? 350,000 dead Americans … or does the CDC have a bogus way of ‘When in doubt, call it COVID’ as the president falsely claims?’

Adams told Tapper:

‘From a public health perspective, I have no reason to doubt those numbers.’

Then, the surgeon general added that people should also take note of how many new hospitalizations the coronavirus was causing. Adams’ account came just as the internationally recognized infectious disease expert Dr. Anthony Fauci also warned about the hospitalizations serving as a warning sign.

Fauci appeared on ABC’s This Week with George Stephanopoulos where he told Americans to “go out into the trenches, go to the hospitals, see what the health care workers are dealing with:”

‘Well, the deaths are real deaths. I mean, all you need to do is to go out into the trenches, go to the hospitals, see what the health care workers are dealing with. They are under very stressed situations in many areas of the country. The hospital beds are stretched. People are running out of beds, running out of trained personnel who are exhausted right now. That’s real. That’s not fake. That’s real.’

Trump had written a Sunday tweet grousing about people approval of Fauci:

‘[He] works for me … and I am in no way given any credit for my work.’

Last summer, CNN reported that the CDC’s top expert on mortality said people were “misinterpreting standard death certificate language.” In addition, the CDC had to deal with rumors that the coronavirus deaths had been “greatly exaggerated.”

Chief of Mortality Statistics at the CDC Bob Anderson released a statement that read:

‘In 94% of deaths with COVID-19, other conditions are listed in addition to COVID-19. These causes may include chronic conditions like diabetes or hypertension.’

‘In 6% of the death certificates that list Covid-19, only one cause or condition is listed, The underlying cause of death is the condition that began the chain of events that ultimately led to the person’s death. In 92% of all deaths that mention Covid-19, Covid-19 is listed as the underlying cause of death.’
