Trump Misspells Marine Corps On Twitter & Veterans Instantly Make Him Wish He Was Dead

The president has made a name for himself while in office through his Twitter habit. At what seems like every available opportunity, he takes to the platform with a message, simultaneously pushing his agenda to his both online and real life followers and further alienating those who find him repulsive.

This week, the president alienated certain segments of American society not for posting something sexist or racist, but rather, this time he misspelled “Marine Corps” in a tweet he posted after visiting a Marine base in San Diego.

The original message he posted read, misspellings and all:

‘It was my great honor to deliver a message at the Marine Core Air Station Miramar to our GREAT U.S. Military, straight from the heart of the American People: We support you, we thank you, we love you – and we will always have your back!’

Obviously the correct spelling is “Marine Corps” and not “Marine Core,” although the latter spelling could be considered closer to the phrase’s pronunciation.

In response to the president’s gaffe — which stayed up long enough to be retweeted by the official White House Twitter account — an array of veterans slammed the president for seemingly not taking his comments seriously enough to be sure he spelled them correctly.

One veteran wrote on Twitter as follows:

‘Someone had to explain to Cadet Bone Spurs the difference between the Marine Corps & the “Marine Core”. Take it from a veteran, our military deserves better than a lying, malignant narcissist for a commander in chief. Resign!’

Another veteran — who actually doubles as a Democratic Congressional candidate in Michigan, wrote:

‘I served for more than 20 years in the Marine Corps. I know that he doesn’t read, but the fact that our Commander-in-Chief doesn’t know the difference between a Corps and a “Core” is more than a spelling error. Wrap yourself in the flag all you like – actual veterans have had it.’

The president has, to be sure, often made a show of supposedly supporting veterans. For instance, besides the reforms at the Veterans Administration he pushed through under the now revealed to be corruption inclined VA Secretary, Trump also made his opposition to pre-NFL game protests about respect for veterans. Even still, what he never really accepted is that the protests weren’t against veterans or even against the flag; rather, the protests were about bringing attention to the plight of African Americans.

While in the San Diego area earlier this week, the president visited prototypes of the wall he wants to put up in between the U.S. and Mexico.

While speaking to soldiers during that same trip — his first to California — he promised a pay raise and suggested the U.S. could found a “space force” to supplement military operations on the ground.

While promising a pay raise, the president has also committed himself to the idea of hosting a military parade in Washington, D.C., something that’s obviously going to cost a significant sum of cash and has drawn intense scrutiny.

This gaffe isn’t the president’s first misspelling; others, like “covfefe,” which he left up on the social media platform overnight once, have been more humorous in nature than this one.
