Judging off the president’s social media habits, you’d think that he has all the time in the world. He takes to Twitter — as is old news at this point — over and over again as the months of his presidency drag on, pouring an immense amount of energy into his social media posts and trying to turn the country’s energy to his social media presence as well.

At about the same time Saturday that the president expressed support for a golfer named Byron Nelson, he rehashed old arguments against the justice system and the nation’s media on his Twitter profile.

Taking on Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s inquiry into his team, he wrote:

‘There was No Collusion with Russia (except by the Democrats). When will this very expensive Witch Hunt Hoax ever end? So bad for our Country. Is the Special Counsel/Justice Department leaking my lawyers letters to the Fake News Media? Should be looking at Dems corruption instead?’

Although it’s not necessarily immediately clear what exact “letters” the president is referring to here, recently, information has come out about topics like the president’s legal team’s maneuverings to try and get Trump the best possible outcome at the end of the whole present ordeal. The New York Times shared information about a memo from the president’s legal team to Mueller to that effect on Saturday.

Information has also made its way out in recent weeks and months about past Trump lawyer Michael Cohen’s efforts to handle private sector concerns for his boss. Cohen was a “fixer” for the president and “took care” of issues ranging from an affair Trump had with an adult film star to unsavory coverage of him in the news media.

The president’s current argument that the Justice Department is leaking letters from his lawyers comes after he tried to keep the DOJ from even getting access to information from at least one of his lawyers, Michael Cohen. The judge in the government’s criminal case against Cohen ruled against the request for the president’s side to get to review seized evidence before the government got it.

Thus, now, the president has yet again resorted to using Twitter as a sort of attempted all encompassing solution. The jumping off point he’s using here is ironic considering the fact that his repeated golf trips have cost the nation immense amounts of money — perhaps he hopes people just don’t dig that far.

As mentioned, he also took on the media yet again early Saturday, resorting to familiar schoolyard bully style tactics.

Despite his best efforts, reality remains in place. The reality is that the United States has the rights to a free press built into its system and that on the flip side of that, there is no deep dark conspiracy working behind the scenes at the DOJ to subvert the Trump administration.

Early Saturday, the president addressed other familiar talking points on Twitter too, such as his claim that the United States has been a victim of drastically unfair global trade practices.

He has resorted most recently to imposing tariffs on our allies in line with those claims — a move that surely won’t help the United States keep many friends in the world.
