For anyone who thought Donald Trump’s Twitter habits were excessive before, the latest influx of unflattering and possibly impeachable news released in the past couple of weeks have only fueled the fires.
Eliminating quarterly reports on job and wage growths would certainly benefit Trump since it would allow him to get through the midterms without anymore unflattering information to be released about the economy. After all, wage growth slowed for the first time by 0.2 percent on the last reports, a fact that will surely be used against the GOP ahead of November.
Admittedly, saying that America was never great was not the smartest soundbite a politician could have uttered. However, like most of the GOP’s taunting and outrage over statements made by the left, the quote is taken entirely out of context. The full quote reads as follows:
‘We’re not going to make America great again. It was never that great. We have not reached greatness. We will reach greatness when every American is fully engaged. We will reach greatness when discrimination and stereotyping of women, 51% of our population, is gone, and every woman’s full potential is realized and unleashed and every woman is making her full contribution.’
A spokesman for Cuomo clarified further:
‘When the President speaks about making America great again — going back in time — he ignores the pain so many endured and that we suffered from slavery, discrimination, segregation, sexism and marginalized women’s contributions. The Governor believes that when everyone is fully included and everyone is contributing to their maximum potential, that is when America will achieve maximum greatness.’
Blind patriotism may be desirable for right-wingers, but honesty about America’s past, her flaws, and a desire to make our country greater is far greater for the left.
Trump’s absolute refusal to recognize his own flaws is equally great. His military parade was a terrible idea and the parade at Andrews Air Force Base would have always sufficed over spending any amount of billions on a parade to stroke the president’s ego. A 50-year-low on youth unemployment is concerning, but who exactly is Trump’s blaming for this? Obama?
