Sexual assault and harassment remain a scourge on the United States — and world — and it would be a slap in the face to those working to stem the tide if a credibly accused assaulter was confirmed to the U.S. Supreme Court. On Tuesday, those accusations continued to pile up, with prominent lawyer Michael Avenatti revealing the identity of his client who says that she was a victim of Trump SCOTUS pick Brett Kavanaugh and his already scrutinized friend Mark Judge’s activities.

Washington, D.C.’s Julie Swetnick explained in a sworn declaration that Avenatti has shared with the world that during the 1980s, she experienced Kavanaugh and Judge seeking to corral girls into situations where they would be raped. She says that they did so in part through spiking the punch at parties, so that they would be less able to say, “No.”

She herself is a victim of one such incident, she explains, having been gang raped at a party where Kavanaugh and Judge were present after she was drugged with what she believes to have been Quaaludes. She says that she knows of witnesses who can attest to her account, including everything from the general behavior of Kavanaugh and Judge towards girls at parties and the incident she herself experienced, which she says she shared with people at the time.

The story is the third to emerge recently of Kavanaugh’s past that paints him as a sexually violent predator. He’s testifying before the U.S. Senate on Thursday over one such account at the same hearing as the woman who brought it forward, Dr. Christine Blasey Ford. Whether Republicans will power through credible accusations of gang rape to push Trump’s nominee to the Supreme Court remains to be seen.
