After CNN was sent pipe bombs by a Trump supporter, Trump attacked them on Twitter. After pipe bombs were sent to Tom Steyer and the most deadly massacre of Jewish people on U.S. soil occurred, Trump attacked him, a Jewish man, on Twitter.
On Monday, he was at it again.
While Trump and the GOP dismiss the outrage coming from everyone else in the country over these senseless deaths and the rise of radical violence thanks to Trump’s vile rhetoric, they continue to push back against the blame. Meanwhile, Trump continues to spread that rhetoric, attacking the same people the MAGA bomber did and insisting that the press is the cause of all the violence and hatred.
Meanwhile, his supporters buy into every word, growing more and more distrustful of the press and more violently opposed to Trump’s critics. The cycle continues, and Trump continues to stir the pot.
At the same time, Brazil just elected a man very similar to Trump. The spread of alt-right sentiment grows while Americans live in fear that democracy, decency, and truth may all be things of the past. During the first round of elections in Brazil, The Guardian reports:
‘Capoeira master Moa do Katendê, an antiracist activist and educator, was stabbed to death by a Bolsonaro supporter. Katendê had declared that he had voted for leftwing candidate Fernando Haddad. In the south of the country, a 22-year-old woman was attacked on the street. We fear that this is only a foretaste of a deadlier wave of violence.’
This is a frightening time to be alive.
