Who is the Donald Trump voter? One activist came up with a profile that caught areas of similarity that a study on the subject did not. On the other hand, the study discovered a few surprises, too.
Ryan Knight is an activist for LGBTQ equality, women’s rights, racial justice, and #TheResistance. In his tweet, he detailed his profile of who the Trump supporter is:

A study published in the voterstudygroup.org, found Trump voters are diverse in many respects. These variable include: “immigration, American identity, race, economics, and moral traditionalism.” Their views on “justice in the political and economic systems” are widely diverse.
The study came up with five different types of Trump voters:
- American Preservationists can be either Republican or not.
- Free Marketers are nearly the opposite of the first group. They are financially conservative, support more trade, and are nearly always Republican.
- Staunch Conservatives are also financially conservative but support a temporary Muslim ban.
- Anti-Elites are socially conservative but fiscally liberal.
- The Disengaged are less economically stressed or concerned about entitlements.
On the other hand,Trump voters do have some very strong similarities.They intensely dislike Trump’s opposing candidate in the 2016 presidential election, former secretary of state Hillary Clinton. A full nine out of 10 in every group studied had an unfavorable opinion of Clinton. In fact, their dislike of her was stronger than that toward President Barack Obama. The second similarity was they supported the temporary ban on Muslim immigration.
Third, Trump voters had similar attitudes about dealing with illegal immigration. The last strong similarity among Trump voters in the study was they held a dim view of their own financial situation. Around 40 percent of Trump voters said their “economic situation has worsened over the past year” versus 20 percent of non-Trump voters.
Ironically, both Trump voters and non-Trump voters agreed about mobility and opportunity for their children. They also supported the Affordable Health Care (ACA/Obamacare).
The study left out two very important personality traits that Knight found: racism and anger.
