Donald Trump is a desperate man clinging to any passing imaginary scandal that may shift attention from his rapidly disintegrating presidency. He is doing everything he can to discredit Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into the alleged collusion between the 2016 Trump campaign and Russian government operatives, including attacking the investigators, his political opponents, and anyone else he can think of. Unfortunately for him, it’s not working.
The irony in Trump accusing anyone of lying is astounding. There is no indication that James Comey lied to Congress during his hearing on Friday. Reading the transcript, in many parts, is like rewinding the clock and looking back years into the time when Hillary Clinton’s emails were the biggest scandal around. It’s no wonder Comey couldn’t remember everything he was asked; so much has happened since then.
This is a president that has told more than 5,000 lies since his inauguration. On a daily basis, he spouts falsehoods meant to distract and cover his own utter incapability to perform the job he was elected to do and his many, many scandals. If he believes anyone finds him more credible than the former FBI director that he fired in order to obstruct justice and end the investigation into Russian collusion, he’s even more ignorant than anyone thought he was.
There is no basis of proof for Trump’s accusations. If there was proof that Comey lied to Congress on Friday, the Republicans would have already called for his head.
