It’s a shame that a politician telling the truth feels like a breath of fresh air, but such is politics in the age of Donald Trump. On Saturday, CNN’s Randi Kaye caught up with former Vice President Joe Biden, who explained the purpose of the government shutdown in short order.
Biden to our @randikayeCNN on Trump and the shutdown: “Republicans overwhelmingly voted to keep the government open. Then Rush Limbaugh and the conservative blonde woman says he’s losing his base, and so he’s changed his mind.”

After a week of vacillating between demanding five billion dollars for an unnecessary border wall in exchange for keeping the government open to saying that his administration would seek other avenues for that funding in order to keep the government open, Trump finally landed on the current stalemate he’s in with Congress: give me my money or I’ll hold the government workers hostage.
Biden explained what was really behind the shift. According to MSN, Biden told the reporter that:
‘Republicans overwhelmingly voted to keep the government open. Then Rush Limbaugh and the conservative blonde woman says he’s losing his base, and so he’s changed his mind.’
That does seem to have been what happened. Trump shuffled around on what lines to draw before Limbaugh and (conservative blonde woman) Ann Coulter began insisting that they and their fans would refuse to vote for Trump unless he demanded the funding for the wall. Suddenly, Trump was immovable.
This is America’s worst nightmare come true. Far-right pundits too extreme even for Fox News are currently dictating government policy. This is what our country has come to.
Twitter was delighted by Biden’s frankness. Read some of their comments below:
