The Buzzfeed News story that is rocking the Friday news cycle and may even signal the end of a presidency is sure to have Donald Trump on edge. As usual, he’s sent his TV lawyer, Rudy Giuliani, out to try to dismiss the story. Their planned strategy, however, is nothing more than laughable.
Giuliani is skipping over major parts of the story with that statement. The most important aspect that Giuliani and Trump would like the public to ignore is that Trump’s former attorney and fixer Michael Cohen is not the source of the story.
The Buzzfeed News report says:
‘President Donald Trump directed his longtime attorney Michael Cohen to lie to Congress about negotiations to build a Trump Tower in Moscow, according to two federal law enforcement officials involved in an investigation of the matter.’
Later in that report, it says:
‘The special counsel’s office learned about Trump’s directive for Cohen to lie to Congress through interviews with multiple witnesses from the Trump Organization and internal company emails, text messages, and a cache of other documents. Cohen then acknowledged those instructions during his interviews with that office.’
Giuliani’s quick dismissal of this story is telling. Special Counsel Robert Mueller reportedly has clear evidence that the current president of the United States committed the crime of obstruction of justice after being sworn in at his inauguration. This is quite clearly an impeachable offense.
Michael Cohen is not even needed at this point to prove it, either.
