Within a few hours of Trump’s petty revenge move to prevent Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) from leaving for a scheduled trip to visit troops in Afghanistan and meet with NATO allies, his hypocrisy was exposed. After that, one would think the president would avoid the subject as much as possible. However, this is the age of Trump, where any opportunity to criticize others while ignoring the hypocrisy of those statements is a daily routine.
This particular argument between the Speaker and the president began when Pelosi requested that Trump either postpone his State of the Union address until after the government shutdown or submit it in writing to avoid forcing security officials to work protecting government officials without pay. In retaliation, Trump announced three hours before Pelosi was scheduled to fly to Brussels, Egypt, and Afghanistan that she would not be allowed to use a government plane to travel since security officials would be required for that trip.
Just a few hours later, it was revealed that the first lady, Melania Trump, was on a government jet headed out for a vacation in Mar-a-Lago, along with unpaid security officials. Later, both Trump and Lindsay Graham were exposed when it was learned that Graham is currently in Turkey meeting with government officials there. In other words, Trump’s refusal to allow Pelosi to fly had nothing to do with his concern for workers affected by the shutdown; it was just petty revenge.
On his rant about the border wall on Friday, Trump continued trying to shame and blame Speaker Pelosi although the American people have refused to take that bait. Meanwhile, his hypocrisy is showing in myriad other ways.
