President Donald Trump is continuing to face House Democrats’ formal impeachment probe, which is now fast approaching the stage with public hearings following a vote this past week to approve further procedures. As the process continues, Trump is proving increasingly unhinged — this Friday morning, he essentially live-tweeted a run-through of shows from conservative commentators from Mark Levin to Sean Hannity and ranted with lies about the current state of national affairs in the process. He seems to have even made up numbers again.
Besides ranting that the duly proceeding impeachment process with plenty of demonstrable supporting evidence is supposedly the “biggest, most disgusting scandal” that’s ” all on the Democrat Party that has highjacked the Impeachment process, our tax dollars, the House of Representatives, to push their 2020 Election,” Trump turned to again picking a fight with Chicago Police Chief Eddie Johnson, who recently skipped an appearance the president made in the city.
Trump belligerently ranted:
‘Chicago will never stop its crime wave with the current Superintendent of Police. It just won’t happen! Thank you to Kevin Graham and all of the GREAT Chicago Police Officers I just had the privilege to meet. Tremendous crime fighting potential if allowed to do your thing!’
“Do your thing”? Is that the best that the president of the United States has when it comes to policing? To be clear, the “thing” Trump has in mind seems to consist of violence towards suspects, among other points. During one talk to officers, Trump explicitly advocated for that violence.
After the above, Trump also seemed to completely make up numbers covering the employment situation in the United States. On Friday, the jobs report covering October came out from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, which said that about 128,000 nonfarm jobs were added to the economy during that month. Trump said the number was 303,000 — it’s unclear where that figure came from. It’s simply not in the report.
Still, like someone struggling through an economics class, Trump railed:
‘Wow, a blowout JOBS number just out, adjusted for revisions and the General Motors strike, 303,000. This is far greater than expectations. USA ROCKS!’
Remember, this is the president of the United States stooping to the level of this rhetoric.
