The stress levels in the White House have been rising to the breaking point. Donald Trump has been facing the impeachment inquiry, and his lawsuit to keep his tax returns secret just failed. The stress is reflected in the people who work in the administration.
Fox News Tuesday anchor Bill Hemmer invited Counselor to the President Kellyanne Conway onto his morning show. He began asking about the House’s impeachment hearings. As soon as he touched upon House impeachment lead House Intelligence Chair Adam Schiff (D-CA), Conway lost it.
First, Hemmer asked:
‘How concerned is the president over these hearings?’
Conway, who is married to an ardent Trump critic and well-known Washington D.C. attorney, responded to Hemmer. She gave him the White House talking point:
‘The president is not concerned at all. The business of the people of this country is not being done … the Capitol behind me is not a movie set, it is not a cardboard cutout. It’s where your representatives work for you, wasting your money and their time.’
Then, Hemmer started to talk about Schiff:
‘Just to come back to this, I am told that Adam Schiff delivers the opening statement tomorrow.’
Conway interrupted him and said:
‘I think he should be under oath.’
Then, Hemmer continued with his question about Schiff:
‘He is going to approach it like a prosecutor from his previous life in Los Angeles. He will make claims of abuse of power. He will make claims of obstruction of justice. How will the White House respond in real time and will the president be watching this himself?’
That was when Conway let loose:
‘Adam Schiff has no credibility. The last time he delivered an opening statement to the public, the entire world to see, it was a parody of the conversation between Ukrainian and American president that simply did not exist. He has zero credibility. I called for his resignation on your network in March, may be on your show. The president called for his resignation last week because he can’t be trusted to be honest and credible as he oversees these hearings and this is a serious point … A contrast that with the most transparent president in history. He tells you every day what he thinks on any number of topics through social media. Near the helicopter, on live TV interviews.’
The president’s loyal aide added:
‘Adam Schiff is going to make people raise their right hand and be under oath when they speak, I would politely suggest what does he have to hide? Why doesn’t he go under oath before he delivers another opening statement to the country?
