Trump Tweets Belligerent New Attack On The Whistleblower

This week, House Democrats held the first public hearing in their ongoing impeachment inquiry, which featured witnesses including top Ukraine diplomat Bill Taylor and State Department official George Kent. On Thursday, the day following that hearing, President Donald Trump is still clearly feeling the heat. He took to Twitter to yet again lash out against the still officially anonymous whistleblower whose complaint revealing Trump’s Ukraine scheme helped spark the inquiry. Following repeated rounds of Republicans again demanding that the whistleblower show themselves or otherwise be officially identified, Trump seemed to demand the same identity revelation.

He tweeted the direct message:

‘Where’s the Fake Whistleblower?’

Trump’s endless return to outlandishly over the top rhetoric like calling the very much real whistleblower “fake” is not poised to help him in the impeachment case or even any related cases. In the time since the whistleblower first brought their complaint to the inspector general overseeing the intelligence community — who Trump has also been criticizing recently — their material has been supported by a wide array of witness testimony from figures like Taylor. Just this week, Taylor revealed that he’d learned that the day after an infamous July phone conversation that Trump had with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Trump asked Trump donor turned E.U. Ambassador Gordon Sondland about the “investigations,” meaning the Ukrainian probes into Trump’s domestic political opponents that the president wanted.

On Friday, House Democrats will be hearing from yet another key witness, former Ukraine Ambassador Marie Yovanovitch, who Trump fired over false allegations that she was conspiring against him. Next week, House Dems already have eight more witnesses lined up after that. Formal articles of impeachment for the full House to vote on might be coming soon…
