Donald Trump may be underestimating House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA). After all, she raised five children before becoming a representative. She is also the youngest child with six older brothers. She can take care of herself.

Pelosi released a statement right after the president’s State of the Union address. She decided to rip up Trump’s speech, because it was  a “manifesto of mistruths.” The speaker stood up, showed the cameras what she was doing, and tore up the hard copies of his speech. It went viral.

Trump was a guest in her House, but he began the evening refusing to shake her proffered hand.

The speaker released a statement after the State of the Union with this warning:

‘The manifesto of mistruths presented in page after page of the address tonight should be a call to action for everyone who expects truth from the President and policies worthy of his office and the American people. The American people expect and deserve a President to have integrity and respect for the aspirations for their children.’

She pointed to issues important to Americans, especially healthcare:

‘The manifesto of mistruths presented in page after page of the address tonight should be a call to action for everyone who expects truth from the President and policies worthy of his office and the American people.  The American people expect and deserve a President to have integrity and respect for the aspirations for their children.’

Pelosi gave Michigan Democratic governor Gretch Whitmer’s party response a compliment. The speaker said that it was a “positive message and vision for progress for all:”

‘In the election, Democrats ran and won on a pledge For The People: lower health care costs, bigger paychecks, clean up corruption in government,” Pelosi concluded. And we will continue to be relentless in our pursuit of progress for hard-working families across America, For The People.’

During her Wednesday closed-door caucus meeting, Pelosi trashed Trump’s abysmal State of the Union Address. She called his 78-minute speech a “manifesto of mistruths,” according to The Hill:

‘You are supposed to talk about the state of the union, not the state of your alleged mind.’

The legislators gave her a standing ovation. Representative Lois Frankel (D-FL) spoke:

‘She ripped it from top to bottom.’
