Americans are trying to take back the soul of our country without the help of Senate Leader “Moscow Mitch” McConnell and his do-nothing Senate. Yet, people do not have to accomplish this alone. Barack Obama is back on the scene with a tornadic force.
He has not been shy about warning that Donald Trump will try every trick up his sleeve to con his way back in November. The 44th president urged people to be wary of the 45th president trying to stoke “nativist, racist, sexist” fears.
Obama raised $24 million in two months for his former Vice President Joe Biden’s campaign in their effort to take back the sanity of our great institutions. That included taking back the Senate, too. At these fundraisers, he has been forthright about the soullessness of Trump for “assaulting women” and pushing “nativist, racist, sexist” antagonisms and fears.
Now that the country is about three months away from November 3rd, Obama raised the alarm that the very American democracy was at stake. In doing so, he made an implied reference to Nazi Germany.
Obama continued to be the Democrat’s greatest campaigner for his friend Biden. He pulled in huge contributions from both large and small donors. For instance, the former POTUS had a virtual conversation with George Clooney. Donors paid from $250 to $250,000 for tickets. The prize for his biggest contributors was a little “virtual clutch” with 44.
During that event, one individual asked Obama what kept him up at night. The former White House resident said “fears of voter suppression and an effort by Mr. Trump to question the election’s legitimacy.”
Obama addressed Trump’s base saying this group “filters out any contradictory information,” according to The New York Times:
‘It’s just glued to Fox News and Breitbart and Limbaugh and just this conservative echo chamber — and so, they’re going to turn out to vote. What he has unleashed and what he continues to try to tap into is the fears and anger and resentment of people who, in some cases, really are having a tough time and have seen their prospects, or communities where they left, declining. And Trump tries to tap into that and redirect in nativist, racist, sexist ways.’
Our 44th president brushed off Trump’s “darker impulses,” including his focus on Confederate monuments:
‘[T]hat’s like his No. 1 priority. [It] gives you a sense of what this is about. The endpoint of that we saw in Europe 60 years ago, 70 years ago — what happens when those things get unleashed. You don’t nip that in the bud, bad things can happen. Among the most quote unquote civilized societies.’
Obama pointed toward Trump’s “anti-Asian sentiment’ by calling COVID-19 “Kung flu” and “Chinese virus:”
‘That still shocks and pisses me off. We already saw this guy win once. After he bragged about physically assaulting women — and that didn’t seem to matter. So, enough said. Let’s get to work.’
Obama praised his former Vice President Joe Biden saying that he will be a “great president:”
‘We have a worthy candidate and we have a worthy platform. But you know what, let’s not be so sophisticated that we are constantly finding reasons why this isn’t good enough or the candidate’s not doing this or the campaign seems to not be getting that quite right.’
President Obama is to deliver the eulogy for Representative John Lews on Thursday. Presidents George W. Bush and Bill Clinton are to also attend, according to CNN. Trump did not even go pay his respects to the great civil rights leader when he lay in state in Washington. Apparently, he was not missed.
Twitter world lit up when Obama returned to the campaign scene. Check out what these Americans had to say:
I’m the proud husband of a teacher. I’ve seen firsthand how difficult the job can be in normal times — let alone in the middle of a pandemic. So when I heard Beth’s story, I knew @BarackObama and I had to give her a call. pic.twitter.com/xBdeItoMW6
