The Obamas have kept their place in the public spotlight long after leaving the White House. In particular, among other efforts, former First Lady Michelle Obama has been leading an organization called When We All Vote, which states on its website that it’s “on a mission to increase participation in every election and close the race and age voting gap by changing the culture around voting, harnessing grassroots energy, and through strategic partnerships to reach every American.” This Tuesday, the organization released a video message in which the former First Lady calls on Americans to make sure that they’re ready to vote, adding that they should vote early and vote by mail, which helps make sure that their voices are heard amidst the turmoil of the pandemic.

In the video, she says:

‘Our job between now and November is to make sure that everyone we know understands the power to make change rests on our ability to cast a vote. Fair and safe voting is gonna be more important than ever this year, and that’s why When We All Vote is fighting to expand vote-by-mail, in-person early voting, and online voter registration… Make sure your friends, families and communities are registered, know their rights and are fully prepared to vote by mail this year or vote early in person… Let’s get more folks across the country trained with the tools, the resources and the information they’ll need to vote, because this election couldn’t be more important.’

On the When We All Vote website, the organization has posted resources where folks can register to vote, request a mail-in ballot for upcoming elections, and sign up to volunteer to help amplify the organization’s mission of expanding access to voting.

Throughout recent weeks, Trump has been leading direct affronts against voting rights across the country. He has been trumpeting brazen lies about the supposed potential for fraud when mail-in voting is used, although mail-in voting is already used at a significant level across the country, and there is no evidence for his claims of some kind of threat to election legitimacy from the voting method. He simply seems paranoid about the possibility of losing in the event of Americans getting to truly have their voices heard amidst the historical failure of Trump’s presidency.
