President Trump has apparently close to no idea what he’s doing in the White House. This Tuesday morning, he took to Twitter to promote a book from former White House staffer Madeline Westerhout and denigrate a slew of former intelligence officials, who he said could have, on their own at least, driven him to trust Russian President Vladimir Putin more than the U.S. intelligence agencies — which is just ridiculous. James Comey is not a bigger threat than the murderous totalitarian Vladimir Putin just because he made Trump look bad! Crucially, this Tuesday morning, Trump also claimed that “more testing… equals more cases,” which is an absolutely moronic claim. Coronavirus tests do not create cases.
Trump tweeted:

Again — more Coronavirus tests do not “equal” more Coronavirus cases. If the virus wasn’t continuing to spread among the population, than increased levels of testing would turn up fewer and fewer cases. This concept is not complicated! Without proper precautions, then even if not a single test was performed, the virus would still be spreading and wreaking havoc among the population. Not a single one of the some 165,000 Americans who’ve died due to the Coronavirus would still be alive if only they’d never been tested. Trump appears too willingly ignorant to acknowledge these facts.
As journalist Aaron Rupar put it:
‘Testing would not turn up more cases if the virus wasn’t spreading out of control throughout the country, but it is. If we gave everyone an ebola test right now there would be no positive results because nobody has the virus. This is very, very basic stuff.’
Trump seems to have turned self-centered ignorance into an entire political philosophy.
