Criminal Investigation Of Trump Election Crimes Referred To FBI

If Donald Trump wanders around a forest screaming “vote fraud,” does he really make an intelligible sound? The temporary president has become farther and farther off-course in his delusional golf cart of life. His phone call to Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger (R) has led two House Democrats to make a serious request of FBI Director Christopher Wray.

Representatives Ted Lieu (D-CA) and Kathleen Rice (D-NY) sent Wray a letter. They want the director to open a criminal investigation into Trump’s call after it was leaked. In the call, POTUS was begging Raffensperger to overturn Georgia’s presidential election.

Lieu and Rice wrote, according to NBC News:

‘As members of Congress and former prosecutors, we believe Donald Trump engaged in solicitation of, or conspiracy to commit, a number of election crimes. We ask you to open an immediate criminal investigation into the president.’

In their letter, two Democrats alleged,

‘The evidence of election fraud by Mr. Trump is now in broad daylight. Given the more than ample factual predicate, we are making a criminal referral to you to open an investigation into Mr. Trump.’

Representatives Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) called POTUS’ behavior “impeachable.” Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) said it “merits nothing less than a criminal investigation.”

We heard the commander-in-absentia’s phone call,  talking to the secretary of state, begging him “to find” just enough votes to sway the 2020 presidential election one state closer to a win. No word on any of the other swing states. Trump said:

‘So look. All I want to do is this. I just want to find 11,780 votes, which is one more than we have. Because we won the state.’

The call was not pretty. It was about an hour of Trump pushing Raffensperger to change the votes, again and again. Trump threw out a mouthful of discredited conspiracy theories. He even hinted at a threat that if the Georgia secretary of state and his staff did not comply, Raffensperger could be “criminally liable.”

Trump said, “the people in the country are angry.” That usually meant that he was angry:

‘The people of Georgia are angry. The people in the country are angry. And there’s nothing wrong with saying, you know, um, that you’ve recalculated.’

Raffensperger and his office’s general counsel, Ryan Germany, were both on the call and had identified themselves to the president. Although they did not antagonize him, they did say POTUS’ claims of fraud were oh-so-wrong.

Raffensperger said at one point:

‘Well, Mr. President, the challenge that you have is the data you have is wrong.’

Trump has virtually ignored the coronavirus pandemic over the past two months other than to mention the vaccines he claims he created. The pharmaceutical companies would beg to disagree. Instead, he has been focused on overturning the presidential election in a sunlight coup.
