There’s a reason that rich white men like Donald Trump get away with even the shadiest of crimes in the U.S. legal system, and most of those reasons involve overpaid lawyers with less than stellar scruples. However, Trump’s latest scheme to defraud the American public was backed by a lawyer with no scruples at all, leading to the suspension of his law license in New York.

Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, who has sweated his way through several years of representing Trump on every television news show that would have him, has lost his license to practice law thanks to his blatant lies in court about the 2020 presidential election. In response, Trump released an angry statement declaring Giuliani a hero and New York a hotbed of “radical Leftists.”

For the record, Giuliani is no Eliot Ness. Ness was a public servant who died penniless after pursuing the mob and refusing to take bribes from them to back off. Giuliani was paid thousands of dollars per day, at least some of which was covered by American taxpayers, to carry bribes to Ukraine and lie in court for America’s most corrupt president.

No amount of yelling into microphones at impromptu rallies held in the parking lot of a sex toy store will get Giuliani out of the mess that Donald Trump has created for the man that was once considered a good prospect for the presidency; instead, he’ll be forced to fight it out in courtrooms in an attempt to get his law license reinstated. That is, however, quite a long shot. The New York court who handed down the decision does not appear to be open to allowing anymore of Giuliani’s performances.
‘We conclude that respondent’s conduct immediately threatens the public interest and warrants interim suspension from the practice of law, pending further proceedings…This country is being torn apart by continued attacks on the legitimacy of the 2020 election and of our current president, Joseph R. Biden.’
You cannot lie in a court of law and get away with it—not even if Trump has you on speed dial.
