In a country where the right to practice any religion one chooses, it’s contradictory when elected officials bash people for their religious beliefs. It’s even worse when that religious bigotry is tied to racism and used specifically to drum up support from white supremacist sympathizers.
Saying I am a suicide bomber is no laughing matter. @GOPLeader and @SpeakerPelosi need to take appropriate action, normalizing this bigotry not only endangers my life but the lives of all Muslims. Anti-Muslim bigotry has no place in Congress. https://t.co/A0VxI3uTmH pic.twitter.com/QTmqaGaZrM

Lauren Boebert (R-CO) used her time over the Thanksgiving break to try her hand at stand-up comedy and failed miserably. Most disgusting in her comedy act were racist and xenophobic jokes at the expense of Congresswoman Ilhan Omar (D-MN), an elected offiicial who receives far more than her share of death threats due to her ethnicity and religious beliefs as a Muslim and childhood refugee from Somalia.
Boebert joked that a frightened police officer ran toward her in an elevator, where she stood next to Omar. The “joke” was that since Omar didn’t appear to be carrying a backpack like a suicide bomber, everything should be okay. She then referred to Omar as “the jihad squad.” Not only was the story racist and unfunny, Omar says it never happened.
Over the Thanksgiving break, Lauren Boebert said she was recently in a Capitol elevator with Ilhan Omar when a fretful Capitol police officer ran up.
Lauren Boebert said: “Well, she doesn’t have a backpack. We should be fine.”
Boebert then called Ilhan Omar, “jihad squad.” pic.twitter.com/Y7f0nFbnud

Worse, however, was the Islamaphobia and racism Boebert validates with these statements. Omar called her out for her “jokes” on Twitter, saying:
‘Saying I am a suicide bomber is no laughing matter. @GOPLeader and @SpeakerPelosi need to take appropriate action, normalizing this bigotry not only endangers my life but the lives of all Muslims. Anti-Muslim bigotry has no place in Congress.’
Boebert’s outrageous display follows the censure of another GOP radical, Rep. Paul Gosar (R-AZ), who posted an anime video on Twitter of himself killing Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and President Joe Biden.
Twitter called for Boebert to also be censured or even removed from Congress. Read some of their comments below:
