During the daily press briefing, a reporter asked White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki about the FDA banning “Covid-19 monoclonal antibody treatments made by Regeneron Pharmaceuticals and Eli Lilly.” She responded:
‘Let’s just take a step back here just to realize how crazy this is, [DeSantis pushes for] is advocating for treatments that don’t work.’
The FDA announced it had halted authorizing these two COVID-19 treatments on Monday, because they did not work against the dominant Omicron variant. And the agency wanted to prevent “exposing patients to side effects.”
DeSantis has long been against vaccine mandates even though he and his wealthy contacts received treatments. As such, he ran with the alternative “monoclonal antibodies to treat Covid-19.” as an alternative for the general Florida population. Last summer he called “Regeneron’s monoclonal antibody cocktail:”
‘[T]he most effective treatment [for COVID-19].’
The FORBES Magazine reported:
‘Regeneron and Eli Lilly’s monoclonal antibody treatments were effective in treating previous variants, health experts noted getting fully vaccinated against Covid-19 was the best way to fight the virus.’
Director of the FDA’s Center for Drug Evaluation and Research, Patrizia Cavazzoni said, The Washington Post reported:
‘[Antibody treatment data] are highly unlikely to be active against the omicron variant.’
Psaki spoke from the White House Press Room:
